Fictional example: a kitchen job waiting for its prerequisite
Clearing the cupboards has started, but is not Done, so protecting the floors still waits for it. The completed earlier tasks contribute 8 planned hours and 40% of the cupboard task contributes another 3.2. That is 11.2 ÷ 86 ≈ 13.02% hours-weighted progress for the whole active project, leaving an estimated 74.8 hours. Marking T03 Done with 100% makes T05 ready with respect to its prerequisite; it does not move the task dates. These are recalculated values from the included fictional renovation example, rounded for display.

CalculatedThe workbook checks the records and uses the planned hours to weight project progress.
Your next stepGive each piece of work a person, a time window and an estimate.
- 02
Choose which dependency path you maintain
You enterFor the original manual plan, select one earlier Task ID in Tasks. For optional automatic dates, enter valid existing Task IDs, durations and up to two earlier predecessors in Schedule.
CalculatedOriginal Tasks checks whether its predecessor is Done without moving dates. Auto Schedule calculates working-day dates from both earlier schedule predecessors, gaps, explicit weekends and holidays.
Your next stepUse the matching views: Gantt and Owners for original manual dates; Plan Gantt and Workday load for Schedule. Do not expect the two plans to sync.
- 03
Check dates and workload together
You enterSet the review date, record each owner's capacity for a seven-day period and keep task dates current.
CalculatedThe Gantt sheet shows task dates across 12 weeks. The Owners sheet spreads estimated remaining task hours evenly across each task's calendar days, then compares the portion in the next seven days with capacity.
Your next stepReview whether the dates and the people available tell the same story.
- 04
Update the plan after doing the work
You enterRecord status, percentage complete and logged hours in Tasks. Maintain original manual dates yourself, or review the separate optional Schedule after changing a duration or predecessor.
CalculatedOriginal overdue, dependency, milestone and Dashboard views follow Tasks. Optional automatic planned dates propagate through Schedule; Workday load flags overload without moving work to resolve it.
Your next stepFinish the weekly review with a clear list of delays, next actions and decisions about the plan.

You enterEnter valid existing Task IDs, duration and up to two earlier schedule predecessors.
CalculatedWorking-day start and finish dates exclude selected weekends and explicit holidays; valid dependency edits propagate forward.
Your next stepReview Plan Gantt and Workday load before committing. Original manual dates remain unchanged.

Before you choose
Fit and practical limits.
- A household planning a kitchen renovation with quotes, trades, purchases and finishing tasks.
- A couple coordinating packing, utilities and moving-day jobs for a house move.
- A small group sharing a defined project with named owners and manually agreed dates.
Understand the boundaries.
- One project per workbook. Save a separate working copy for another project.
- Original Tasks uses one earlier predecessor and manual dates. The separate optional Schedule supports two earlier schedule predecessors and working-day rescheduling. No critical-path calculation or automatic resource levelling.
- Both timelines show twelve weeks. The original Gantt reads Tasks dates; Plan Gantt reads optional Schedule dates. Status, progress, hours and actual work remain manual.
- Original Owners estimates seven calendar days. New Workday load uses the selected working calendar and only scheduled tasks, evenly spreading remaining hours over their working days. Unscheduled tasks are outside the report.
- No live collaboration service, calendar sync, notifications or external integrations.
- Resolve every input warning before relying on calculated views.
- Weekend choices: Sat/Sun, Fri/Sat or Sunday only; up to 50 holiday dates. Schedule dependencies must be valid earlier rows. Manual mode clears optional inputs and reads original dates exactly; it does not shift weekend dates.
Editable .xlsx files for a desktop spreadsheet application; the software is not included. Native Microsoft Excel verification is still pending in this private preview. Google Sheets and Apple Numbers compatibility have not been confirmed.
Questions about this workbook
The details that affect your choice.
Will the workbook move dates and level resources automatically?
The optional Auto Schedule moves planned dates after two earlier dependencies using durations, working-day gaps and explicit holidays. Manual mode keeps the original Tasks dates. Workday load measures overload but does not move tasks to level resources. Original Dashboard/Gantt/Owners remain their separate manual views.
Will a delay automatically move the rest of the project?
Choose the optional Auto Schedule to move dependent working-day dates. It uses your durations, up to two earlier schedule predecessors, gaps, weekends and explicit holidays. The original Tasks dates and its manual Gantt do not move; update them yourself if you maintain that separate plan. Neither mode levels resources automatically.
How many predecessors can a task have?
Optional Auto Schedule supports up to two predecessors from earlier Schedule rows; the original Tasks dependency check accepts one earlier Task ID. Keep those two paths separate. The workbook does not provide dependency-type choices, a critical path or automatic resource levelling.
How is overall progress calculated?
The project view weights task progress by planned hours. A large job therefore contributes more than a small one. Keep the hour estimates realistic and update task percentages manually; progress is a planning measure, not a measurement of the work in the room.
Does the Gantt cover every date in a long project?
It displays a 12-week window starting on the Monday you enter in Settings. Task records can still hold their own dates, but the view is intended for reviewing a bounded period rather than an unlimited programme.
How does the owner workload estimate work?
Original Owners estimates remaining planned hours over the calendar days between manual Start and Due, including weekends, inside the next seven days. Optional Workday load instead spreads remaining effort over Schedule working days, using your explicit weekends, holidays and 1-90-day view. It includes only scheduled tasks and compares against the daily capacity you enter. Neither view moves tasks automatically to level resources.
Can my partner or a contractor edit it at the same time?
The kit is a downloadable workbook. It does not include a shared account, permissions or a live collaboration service. Agree who maintains the working copy and how you share it.
Does it record hours automatically?
No. You enter planned and logged hours. There is no timer, calendar connection or monitoring of another person's work.
