Practical guide / Semester Workload & Study Workbook 1.0

What is due next, and how much study work still needs a place?

A deadline list can grow while the study week stays unchanged. Connect subjects, assessments, readings and actual sessions, then compare planned hours with the weekly capacity you chose. Completed time is recorded effort, not a prediction of learning or grades.

Confirm the term

Choose the first Monday, review date, weekly capacity and subject IDs.

Twenty reporting weeks and validation checks form the review frame.

Review: Copy requirements from your actual course; keep IDs stable.

Give the assessment a session

Enter an assessment, estimate and deadline, then link dated study sessions and readings.

Valid Planned and Completed sessions feed the workload; completed actual hours reduce estimated work remaining.

Review: Compare the planned week with the time you really have.

Review what happened

Record completed time, cancel unused plans and advance the review date.

Next deadlines, remaining work and reading follow-ups update from valid records.

Review: Choose the next concrete session; the workbook does not submit or reschedule your work.

Check the assumptions.

  • 20 subjects, 200 assessments, 500 study sessions, 200 reading records, 50 timetable entries and 20 reporting weeks.
  • Manual course requirements, dates, estimates and capacity. The first term date is a Monday; timetable rows do not generate sessions.
  • Remaining effort is max(0, entered estimate minus recorded valid completed hours); it is not a learning or grade forecast.
  • Cancelled sessions are excluded. Future completed sessions are flagged; actual effort is limited by your review date.
  • No course-system integration, submission, reminders, automatic rescheduling or grade calculations.
  • Native Excel verification remains pending. Resolve input warnings before using the summaries.

Keep a copy you can return to.

Keep the supplied clean and example files unchanged. Save your own working file with a useful name, such as semester-study-2027-home.xlsx, and keep a dated backup before a large edit. A purchased ZIP is the blank source, not a backup of your entries.

If an input or formula is replaced

Undo the edit while it is still available, or return to a known good backup. If you need a fresh clean file, transfer only your records into its marked input cells and follow the setup guide again. Do not paste whole sheets over the supplied formulas, validations or reference lists. Check IDs, units, dates and linked results against the example before relying on the copy.

When the supplied rows are full

20 subjects · 200 assessments · 500 study sessions. Calculation ranges and validations have fixed capacities. A new row below a table does not prove that every linked result includes it.

For a separate period, project or volume, preserve the old workbook and start a named clean copy. If records must carry forward, record exactly which inputs you transfer, preserve their references and compare the opening and closing figures. Avoid copying historical activity as both an opening amount and a new movement. There is no automatic migration between files.

Inspect the workbook before you choose.
